Caught up in life...

May 2, 2015

I haven't been thorough on the blog lately..

Those last few months have been difficult as my marriage has come to an end.

I have to deal with that, and still be a solid mother (and father) to my 2 yo daughter.

I didn't really share much about my personal life with you before..

So I have been living in Bali for more than 4 years now, and my X husband has been my main, if not only, reason to move here.

When I decided to marry him, I left friends and family behind and moved to a whole new place from which I didn't understand the culture yet. I sold or gave away pretty much everything I owned, including my pianos, beloved books, mangas and vinyls. I was ready to build a new life from scratch.

My family was very concerned (hostile) with my rushed decision to marry this man of different skin color, background, believes and culture.

But I am a passionate woman who love to follow her heart, even if it sometimes means not thinking things through.. :) So I kind of lost contact with my family for a while (my dad wouldn't talk to me for more than 2 years). I didn't understand why they were giving me such a hard time and were not being supportive of my happiness. I felt quite angry at them, and honestly, deeply betrayed and abandoned.

Now though, it feels a bit like they foresaw what would happen to my marriage.

We had a wonderful first year but then we've been through many crisis, trying every time to glue things back together as good as possible, until it wasn't fixable anymore.

The cultural differences were too deep, and I believe insurmountable. He could never have treated me with the respect, love and care I would expect as a European woman. And I could never give him what (most) Balinese men expected from a wife, which is having a blind eye on the other women, the alcohol, and the irresponsibility inherent to the island life.

It is hard not to rush into things when you are passionate, optimistic about the future, and an adventurer like me. But I should have thought about it more thoroughly and take my time.

I now have to think about where to go and what to do next.

In the meantime you can follow me on instagram & twitter @curvilyyours and on facebook.com/yourscurvily

Thank you for reading my blog, it means a lot to me,

Curvily yours,
